Exhibition project of maps of Lazio curated by the MEMOTEF Library
from 13 December 2022 on the first floor of the Faculty
The ‘Ferdinando Milone’ Library of the MEMOTEF Department, in order to promote the extensive census and cataloguing of over 3,000 printed cartographic documents published by the Military Geographical Institute of Florence, the Geological Office of the Hydrographic Office of the Ministry of Public Works and, to a lesser extent, the Italian Tourist Association, later the Italian Touring Club, has selected for this exhibition project a number of significant maps relating to the Lazio region, with surveys carried out from 1872 to the mid-20th century.
This first interesting exhibition aims to highlight the importance of the Lazio region, with particular reference to the provinces of Rome, Latina, Viterbo, Frosinone and Rieti, highlighting the development and transformation that these areas have undergone over time through the geography, geomorphology and historical cartography of our region.
The maps are accompanied by a brief descriptive sheet with bibliographical references, key geographical features, reduction scales, anthropogenic impact, topographical surveys with subsequent updates and any interesting facts and notes.
The Library would like to extend its special thanks to Dr. Frascatani for his valuable contribution to the graphic and technical aspects of this exhibition, as well as for his professional advice and collaboration.
We would also like to thank Dr Salvucci, Dr Chiocchini and Prof. Teodori for their kind assistance and expert advice.
