The library of the Department of "Studi geoeconomici, linguistici, statistici, storici per l´analisi regionale" "Ferdinando Milone" and that of the Department of "Matematica per le decisioni economiche, finanziarie e assicurative" have merged into the new library of the Department of Metodi e modelli per l'economia, il territorio e la finanza (MEMOTEF).
"Ferdinando Milone" Library - 5th Floor
(former Department of Studi geoeconomici, linguistici, statistici, storici per l´analisi regionale)
The Library, founded in 1983 with the merger of the book collections of the Institutes of Economic Geography, Economic History, and Statistics, which merged to form the new Department, and to which the Institute of Languages was added in 2000, was dedicated to Professor Ferdinando Milone, a distinguished scholar of Economic Geography, on October 1, 1997.
The Library's uniqueness lies in its bibliographical heritage, consisting of important Italian and foreign treatises on economic history and the history of economic thought published since the 1930s, miscellaneous pamphlets of historiographical interest, a rich collection of repertoires, statistical annals, and general censuses of the population, industry, commerce, and agriculture published by the National Institute of Statistics. The library contains numerous essays on physical and economic geography, the history of trade, agricultural economics, geopolitics, and tourism economics, as well as maps, national and international thematic atlases, and cartography manuals. It also includes a small collection of valuable works on the social sciences published between the late 18th and the second half of the 19th century.
The bibliographic collection, partially retaining its original structure, represents a valuable aid to research in the fields of history, statistics, demographics, geography, and linguistics. It currently comprises approximately 40,000 volumes, including Italian and foreign monographs and loose pamphlets. The titles of the periodicals listed number over 980, of which approximately 183 are current, some of which include a substantial collection of older publications.
The paper catalogs by author, title, subject, and classification, the historical Staderini catalogs, and the printed periodical catalog are available on-site. Internet terminals are also available, allowing you to consult the online catalogs and perform bibliographic searches during library opening hours.
"Matematica D.E.F.A." Library - 1st floor
(former Department of Matematica per le decisioni economiche, finanziarie e assicurative)
The Library of the former Institute of Matematica finanziaria was founded in 1955 in the premises of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Piazza Fontanella Borghese. In 1970, it moved to Via del Castro Laurenziano, the current location of the Faculty of Economics. With the transition from Institute to Department in 1987, the library merged with the library of the Department of Scienze Attuariali, creating a single library with separate locations: one on Via Nomentana and the other on Via del Castro Laurenziano. In March 1994, the two libraries were definitively separated, and the library in question became the library of the Department of Matematica per le decisioni economiche, finanziarie ed assicurative. (Maria Piccioni - in "La Facoltà di Economia: cento anni di storia 1906-2006", Rubbettino Editore) The Library holds approximately 6,000 volumes, consisting of purchases, gifts, and scientific publications from the Department. It also subscribes to journals of interest in mathematics, finance and economics, and information technology.
