terrà un seminario dal titolo: "The weight of the world: an extensive study on BMI"

Abstract:
The effect of overweight and obesity alone on the burden of mortality has been estimated to have caused almost 4.5 million deaths worldwide in 2013, 8.1% of the total deaths. Overweight and obesity are directly associated with cardiovascular mortality, diabetes, and cancer. High body-mass index is the second leading metabolic risk factor, following high blood pressure, in terms of disability-adjusted life-years, the first among the female population aged 15-49 years old. The overall economic cost of roughly $2 trillion globally18, with $66 billion indirect economic cost due to loss of productivity annually only in the US. During the seminar I will present the results of the work on trends in adult body-mass index recently published in Lancet by the NCD-RisC group. I will explain the process which led to collect over 2000 population based health studies around the world, the data challenges, the model developed to estimates trends for every country in the world over the past 39 years, and highlight the main results.
