Practical Workshop
Using statistics as a practical tool for Corpus Linguistics and the analysis of language: exploring the use of corpus tools

Keynote speaker and tutor:
Vaclav Brezina (Senior Lecturer at the University of Lancaster, UK)
Introduction: Marina Bondi (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia)

Date: 3 February, 2022
Time: 9.30 – 15.30

The sessions will include:
- a presentation on why and how statistics can be applied to research in language corpora, in diachronic studies and discourse analysis, in order to improve and normalize data for more accurate and reliable analyses; this can be done through some key principles of statistical techniques which do not necessarily need any great statistical expertise;
- a practical session using software and corpus retrieval techniques (e.g., Graphcol, LancsBox developed at Lancaster University, UK).

Convenors: CLAVIER Unità Roma – Sapienza*

The workshop will be held online and is open to all scholars and is free of charge, but please register here to attend by January 30.
